iPads for Learning and Teaching

There are thousands of apps available within the education (learning and teaching) category; the apps mentioned below have worked with pupils with autism. Many of the apps mentioned are framework apps, meaning you can personalise for the pupil. If you search on the internet there are many lists of suggested apps it is worth while having a look at one of the lists to see what is suitable for your pupils.

Suggested apps

Story creator 2 – easy to use app to create stories using pictures and drawing, can be exported to email. Available in free and pro version

Book creator – another easy to use book/ story creator app

Clicker Sentence – One of a series of Clicker apps available for the ipad. Grids can be easily created  and downloaded from www.learninggrids.com expensive but worthwhile especially if you have a wi-fi printer.

Bitsboard – There is a free version and a pro version. This is a great program for creating personalised games and activities, pictures can be imported. Boards can be downloaded from the internet. In terms of functionality, range of use and value for money this is highly recommended!

Series of language apps - Question builder, story builder, isentence, ilanguage, preposition –  they are very useful though American voice!

There are hundreds of story books available on the ipad including many Disney books, they have built in text to speech popular titles include Toy Story, Winnie the Pooh, Cars and The Princess and the Frog.
